Friday the 13th!

Jenny, from Memoirs of a Scream Queen blog, is hosting a blog festival entitled: "Legacy: His Name Was Jason". Now, I have to confess, I have never seen any of the movies from the Friday the 13th franchise. I suppose I'm just more of a gothic horror girl, and with the exception of A Nightmare on Elm Street, I seem to have missed many of the '80s slasher flicks. However, despite having never seen the films, I'm completely familiar with the imagery of Jason's hockey mask, which is quite a testament to the impact Friday the 13th has had on popular culture.

As I can't really offer anything authoritative on the subject of Jason Voorhees, I thought instead I would share a cool Friday the 13th poster I discovered on Etsy, by Team Welser (pictured above left). I have also included a still from the upcoming stop-motion animated film, ParaNorman (pictured above right), due for release in September. Friday the 13th is parodied in a scene where Neil, Norman's chubby friend, is wearing a hockey mask, which I'd say is pretty strong evidence of Jason's enduring legacy!

To see all the other bloggers participating in this event, head on over to Memoirs of a Scream Queen.

  4. REALLY? You've never seen them? That's amazing.

And I adore stop motion animation, so I'm all over ParaNorman too.

    Happy Friday the 13th!

    1. Hi pensive,

Haha. I know, I know! BAD Emma! Although, I'm sure you guys in the US get more opportunity to see movies like those from the 'Friday the 13th' series on TV. Sadly, sport is given a much higher priority on TV in Australia than horror movies.

I can't wait for 'ParaNorman'. The trailers look so good, and I love 'Coraline', which was also made by Laika.

  5. If you take away the annoying teenagers I actually think the storyline of the first film is rather gothic in a traditional madwoman-in-the-attic kind of way.

    1. Hi Chris,

Good point! I didn't even realize that the killer in the first film wasn't Jason, but the mad mother. I've got a bit of catching up to do.
