The Skeleton Dance

The Skeleton Dance was created in 1929, as the first of Disney's Silly Symphonies. The concept was bold at the time because the film featured no familiar characters, or even a story. It was simply a fusion of music and animation designed to evoke a mood.

In spite of its age, The Skeleton Dance remains an immensely popular and critically admired  cartoon. It is spookily atmospheric and kookily charming... although, those skeletons really should keep their bony hands off the long-suffering graveyard cats!

  1. There's a classic for ya! I don't care how jaded and cynical you might be. You have to smile at this short film.

  6. I do remember this when they used to have the show on Sunday night--I think--and around Halloween I'm sure is when they must have shown it.

Of course, my favorite one too. I willhave to keep my eyes peeled for this in some $1 store and grab it!

  7. Hi Cullan,

    I know! It's irresistible!!

    Hi Vivienne,

I only just discovered this cartoon a few months ago and I'm so glad that I did!

    Hi Robin,

Yes, it has definitely stood the test of time! I'll have to look out for the 'Marceline the Vampire Queen' cartoon that you recommended.

    Hi Slowdeath,

The spooky cartoons are definitely the best!! Animation gives so much more freedom to create interesting effects, too.

    Hi Andrew,

I've only been able to watch it on YouTube, but I'll have to see if I can find it on DVD.

    Hi Lorelei,

I don't recall ever having seen 'The Skeleton Dance' on Australian television, unfortunately. I'm going to watch out for it on DVD, as well!
